Twitter Web Design & Photography Research

// February 19th, 2009 // No Comments » // Social Networking

Twitter is good for keeping up with your friends, but its even better for Research and generally staying upto date in whatever your chosen field, whether its Web Design and Photography, or even train spotting.

Search Twitter

Search Twitter and Twitter Scoop for the Latest News

When I first started twittering I treated it much like the status updates in Facebook. But very quickly I realised that the Twitter experience is somewhat different. For a start only a few of the people I follow are actually friends. The majority are web designers, graphic designers and photographers, from around the world. You see alot of these guys ‘tweet’ when they’ve published a new article about what they do, or when they come across something that they find interesting, and they think other like minded people will also find interesting.

Twitter Search and Retweeting

 So soon after following all these people, somebody mentioned Tweetdeck, an application for twittering. So I downloaded it and started using it. Now the most powerful thing about this is the search facility. I have two searches setup that are regularly checking the world of Tweets for the keywords ‘Web Design’ and ‘photography’. This way I know whos talking about these subjects across the world whether I’m following them or not. Then if I like what I find, I can then start following them because they might have something else interesting to say, then I can ‘Retweet’ it on so people following me can benefit. easy eh!

I imagine this would work for many fields of work and research, also alot of people use this search functionality for conferences so a particular conference uses a keyword, and people can then follow a sort of timeline of tweets related to that event.

The people at Twitter have recently blogged about extending the search functionality on the Twitter website so we will see what that brings, and I say bring it on, it looks like this http://search.twitter.com

Kate and Rob’s Wedding

// February 5th, 2009 // 2 Comments » // Photography, Portfolio

Well last job of the year was a wedding at St Peters Church, Belmont . Kate and Rob were married in the afternoon there and then went on to Astley Bank which is near Darwen.

Copies of the Wedding Photobook are available for purchase from my Blurb Bookstore, and for a quick preview of the book you can click the Book Badge on the right to see the first few pages.

It was a pretty cold day, but nice and clear so a great day considering the time of year. I did make sure I had some fingerless gloves for the day, which came in handy.

Rings shot, and a shooting star passes by...

I started shooting at around 1:30pm, with the actual wedding taking place at around 2pm. I had time afterwards up until the wedding breakfast at Astley Bank at around 5pm. So I did a fair amount of shots at the church, including confetti shots, and then went on to Astley Bank to do the rest.

Confetti Kisses

I enjoyed doing the confetti shots actually because we got quite a big group of people outside the church involved and the confetti was flying around for a while, so got the chance to do quite a few reaction shots, and as you can see could get the happy couple to have a kiss aswell.

When we did get back to the reception venue, the first job was to get the everybody group shot done. This was good because the venues bridal suite had a balcony that I could step out on to and see everyone in front of the main entrance.

So after a few more groups, the light was failing and it was time to do some inside, including some of just Rob and Kate, and also they had asked me to take some shots of the wedding cake as a family member had made it. I have to say it was excellent, with different members of the family all built into the design.

A few too many

I couldn’t tell you who this character was supposed to be, but I’m sure if anybody that was they reads this, then they will probably know.

A great day and I’m enjoying putting together the Photobook of the day at the moment, with words from all the readings, and also a full list of peoples names in the Everybody group shot.
