Sarah and Mark’s Wedding

// August 10th, 2010 // No Comments » // Photography, Photography, Portfolio, Wedding

Sarah and Mark’s wedding took place in late June in the city of Lincoln. The ceremony took place at St Nicolas Parish Church just outside the centre, with the following wedding breakfast at the White Hart Hotel right in the centre, with views of the cathedral from the roof top terrace.

I arrived in Lincoln very early and drove straight in to the centre to have a look around. The cathedral is an amazing place and a great location for weddings. I spent some time wandering around the cobbled streets around the hotel, checking out locations for shots and basically getting to know the area.

Then I drove up to the brides Mum and Dads house and joined Sarah, Mum and Dad and 6 bridesmaids all getting ready for the day. I had a quick brew and a chat, and then got the camera out and started shooting.

They enjoyed food and champagne in the garden, in fact Sarah’s mum insisted I eat something! which I couldn’t refuse. Sarah was very chilled out and it was the bridesmaids busying about, loosing shoes, looking for make up, etc etc, in fact Sarah spent most of the time doing the bridesmaids hair and attaching false eyelashes to numerous eyelids.

So as soon as I’d got enough shots of the preparations I moved on to the pub next door to the church where the groom and many guests were having a quick drink. i took a few shots there and then went across to the church for the arrival of the bridesmaids.

So then some shots of the groom and his best man, and then it wasn’t long until the bride arrived with her father and the wedding got under way.

Walk the streets

I joined the party at the hotel afterwards, did some group shots on the roof terrace, and then took Sarah and Mark into the cobbled streets around the White Hart Hotel and Lincoln’s amazing cathedral.

I stayed for the wedding breakfast and took photographs of the speeches, cake cutting, and then left them to enjoy the rest of there wonderful day.

Louise and Matt’s Wedding Book

// May 13th, 2010 // No Comments » // Photography, Photography, Portfolio

Louise and Matt who are based down in Snodland, not far from Maidstone, got married last year at All Saints Church, Snodland. They asked me to produce a Wedding Book of their special day, so I created the wedding book you see in the preview below. Printed on 180gsm lustre paper, this 13×11 inch wedding book is a high quality book that really does justice to the beautiful church and its surroundings, and obviously most importantly the bride and groom.

If for any reason the above preview isn’t working for you, instead of trying to download a plugin for your browser, just have a look at the gallery below which includes some shots of some of the layouts.

Southport Air Show 2009

// September 29th, 2009 // No Comments » // Personal, Photography

Had a great time at the Southport Air Show last Saturday (26 Sept). The stand out items from the programme were The Red Arrows, The Blades, The Wing Walkers and to top it off seeing the Eurofighter Typhoon was something else. Below is a slideshow from my Flickr set.

It was quite amazing how loud that Eurofighter was compared to everything else. We will definitely be going again next year, but we will be more prepared, ie. full on picnic, chairs, maybe even a BBQ!

New .es Domain Name

Recently I’ve been looking into different types of domain names as I wanted to try and have something fairly unique. So since I spotted sometime ago that Matt Mullenweg of WordPress fame had managed to acquire http://ma.tt I started thinking about what I could use, that wouldn’t cost a fortune to buy. So when I realised I could buy a spanish country domain relatively cheaply I went for it.

So now I have http://rowl.es along with http://rowlesmedia.com both pointing to my main website. This also means I can use dan@rowl.es as my email address.

Wedding Flickr Set

Just wanted to post a slideshow from my Wedding Photography Flickr set. I’m really impressed with Flickr and how easy it is to share content from it. Also I have started to join different groups which is great, I’m able to submit my own photo’s but also check out what other people are doing. So it enables you to pick up on different styles and helps to develop your own skills in photography.

Schumachers Benetton at the Pageant of Power

// July 31st, 2009 // No Comments » // Photography

Schumachers Benetton B192, originally uploaded by Dan Rowles.

Recently I visited the annual Pageant of Power at Cholmondeley. I have been posting shots from it on my Flickr account, and I thought I would try out there service that allows you to create blog posts directly in Flickr. So this should post to my website without to many problems.

Its interesting that I was excited to realise that I’d just photographed Schumachers first F1 car, and now he is going to be racing again for Ferrari. Obviously in unfortunate circumstances, but nevertheless, its going to be interesting seeing him go up against Button and Hamilton, not forgetting those quick Red Bull cars.

I didn’t even realise it was his car until I got the photo into Lightroom and zoomed in to see the writing just below where the driver is in this shot.

Above is a slideshow from my Flickr set ‘Pageant of Power’. You can see firstly the Red Bull Air Race plane, this was amazing. Following this was the helicopter display which was excellent and showed the skill of the Army, RAF and Navy pilots. Infact in one of the shots you see Lord Cholmondeley congratulating the Navy for winning the competition.

Will definately go back next year anyway.
